At The 2A Boys, we believe firearm safety isn't something kids should first learn by accident. It should be taught intentionally, appropriately, and differently as children grow.

We Don't Believe Fear Is the Answer
A firearm is a serious tool that deserves respect. But we don't believe children need to be taught that the mere presence of a firearm automatically creates panic or an emergency.
We believe education replaces mystery, training builds confidence, and responsibility develops over time.
For younger children, that begins with simple awareness: understanding that firearms are not toys, knowing when something is outside the rules, and involving a trusted adult when appropriate.
As children mature, the conversation can grow with them. They can begin learning the universal rules of firearm safety, how firearms function at an age-appropriate level, what responsible ownership looks like, and why discipline matters.
The goal isn't simply to teach a child what not to do.
The goal is to raise a child who understands why safety matters.
Two Age Groups
Firearm Safety Should Grow With Your Child
Children at different stages of development shouldn't receive exactly the same lesson.
Ages 5-9
Awareness • Respect • Basic Safety
At this age, we focus on simple concepts children can remember and apply.
- Firearms are not toys.
- Never handle a firearm without permission and adult supervision.
- What to do when they encounter a firearm outside a supervised setting.
- Why curiosity should lead to questions, not unauthorized handling.
- Simple, age-appropriate firearm safety habits.
The objective is awareness without fear.
Ages 10-14
Safety • Responsibility • Understanding
As maturity increases, so can the level of education.
- The Four Universal Rules of Firearm Safety.
- Responsible handling under qualified adult supervision.
- Why every firearm must be treated seriously.
- The consequences of careless decisions.
- Range etiquette and personal responsibility.
- The difference between simply knowing the rules and developing safe habits.
The objective becomes responsibility through education and repetition.
The Foundation
The Four Universal Rules of Firearm Safety
These rules form the foundation of responsible firearm handling.
Treat every firearm as if it is loaded.
Never make assumptions about the condition of a firearm.
Never point a firearm at anything you are not willing to destroy.
Always maintain control of the muzzle and keep it pointed in a safe direction.
Keep your finger off the trigger until your sights are on the target and you have made the decision to shoot.
Good trigger discipline should become a habit long before a shot is ever fired.
Be sure of your target and what is beyond it.
You are responsible for understanding where a shot could travel, not simply what you're aiming at.
These aren't rules kids should memorize just to pass a test.
They are habits we want them to carry for life.
Our Why
Why We're Doing This
The 2A Boys didn't begin as a firearm-safety program.
It started with our family.
As our kids grew, we realized they needed more than rules. They needed opportunities to learn responsibility, make good decisions, develop discipline, and be surrounded by people willing to mentor them.
Firearms became one of the tools through which those lessons were taught.
What began with basic safety lessons and family range days grew into training, competition, mentorship, and a much bigger conversation about raising the next generation.
Now we want to help other parents begin those conversations with their own children.
We're developing age-appropriate firearm-safety resources for families, including lessons for ages 5-9 and ages 10-14, parent guides, videos, and additional educational resources.
